ABOUT DEADLIGHT

Hi, I'm Robin, owner, luthier and chief designer to Deadlight Designs Custom Guitar Workshop.

I started The Deadlight Designs Workshop in 2004 because of the lack of local instrument repairers/ luthiers in and around my home town of Wallington.

Being a musician and gigging regularily It was difficult to keep my instruments in tip top playing condition and on a musicians budget, so I started to learn what I could from who I could whenever I could.

Many bootsales and secondhand shops later I had accumilated quite a collection of budget guitars and a couple of real bargains along the way, these later were to be my first home schooling projects. I also think I must have bought every Guitar reference book out there and read the lot front to back, these were to be my bibles.

Nothing teaches you more than practical learning and 10-12 years down the line with a lot of learning curves and addmitedly mistakes along the way I feel I have reached a level of production quality that is up there with the likes of Gibson and Fender but with an added touch of originality and spice.

Being a Rocker at heart, I was brought up with music from bands such as Deep purple, Thin lizzy, The Kinks, The Moody Blues, The stones, The Small faces, The Beachboys, neil Young, Pink floyd, Jimi Hendrix and so many others of which I have to thank my dad Alan Jupp ( He's the fella in the pic holding that Gibson Samurai custom ), Thanks dad.

This obviously lead me to electric guitars and the inner workings of which at first not only intrigued me but got me hooked forever.

The natural progression from repairing and customising guitars was to Design and Build them myself. This took me to another level to the understanding of guitars and their construction.

Whilst learning my craft I took a job as an electrical engineer of where I learnt the trade of Industrial electrical engineering, circuit electrics and all the techniques required to professionally wire any electric guitar, this was where I learnt to build my own pick ups, I had Digital, manual and automatic winding machines at my disposal and an abundance of Original 1957-2000 AWG Enamelled copper wire, Brilliant.

Since starting Deadlight Designs I have been building custom guitars and custom pick ups to specification for clients around the world and am becoming a recognised figure in the Instrument builder and customisation market.

Guitars are my passion and every guitar that I work on gets my total unequivicable commitment, my eye for extreme detail and being a gross level perfectionist my blood, sweat and sometimes tears. I believe in what I do and do it passionately.

When working on a custom build, You and I work closely together , I encourage several fitting visits so you can feel the instrument and it's contours, see the natural raw woods and construction as it's being built. If you need a bit more off or it needs a horn shortening I will alter it for you then and there so you can go away feeling confident you are getting exactly what you want.

Unlike a lot of Instrument builders I live by the code ( No Mistique, No Mark ups, No Messing ) I keep it real, you pay what I pay when it comes to materials and I will explain every service and procedure to you in plain English.

All of my clients are welcomed into my home on the initial meeting and from there on in at my workshop ,during the design and fitting visitations you can relax with a cup of tea and chat face to face with me while I work on your guitar.
